About
The Story Behind the White Squall Podcast
A white squall strikes without warning—a sudden, microburst out of nowhere that tests sailors absolute limits, forces them to face the unknown, and changes them forever. We all face them.
The White Squall Podcast is dedicated to the long-format, raw, and unfiltered stories of extraordinary people from all walks of life who have been pushed by choice or by outside forces far beyond their comfort zones. From terrifying, death-defying feats of endurance and survival to miraculous, heartwarming triumphs of the human spirit, we pull back the curtain on what it truly takes to endure.
We don’t just recap the events; we dig deep into the psychological and emotional front lines of adventure to uncover the hard-won lessons that can inspire, guide, and ground us all through the storms of our own lives.
Meet Your Host
Brandon Kowallis has been exploring caves for over 30 years. He was the last person to see John Edward Jones alive during the 2009 attempted rescue in Nutty Putty Cave — a story that went viral for more than a decade after the rescue. Brandon has his own share of epic tales as he has pushed his own limits of exploration in search of new caves through the intermountain west, Mexico, and Guatemala.
“I’ve spent my life fascinated by what happens to a person when the safety nets are gone. As a father, husband, and adventurer, I built this podcast to explore the grit it takes to navigate life’s unexpected white squalls. My goal is to paint a vivid, cinematic picture of our guests’ journeys so that you can live, feel, and learn from their experiences right alongside them.”
